Introduction
One area in which
Macau casinos tend to differ greatly from
Las Vegas casinos (and there are not many of
those areas in practical terms) is in the dress
code. In Las Vegas , most of the casinos do not
have a dress code of any kind. There are a few
that have a semi-formal dress code and even
fewer that enforce a full formal dress code, but
you will find that there are many more casinos
in both categories within the boundaries of the
Macau area. If you want to have a good evening
at your casino of choice without offending
anyone, you should know the dress code of your
casino beforehand. In general, there are four
kinds you can choose from.
Formal Dress Code
A formal dress code is also known as a black
tie dress code. This is a dress code that forces
you to wear something formal before you enter
the casino floor. Formal translates into a suit
jacket and a tie although in some of the more
stingy casinos it can mean a tuxedo and a bowtie
for men and a formal evening gown for women.
There are no casinos in Macau that enforce a
completely formal dress code although there are
higher class casinos in the area in which many
people do choose voluntarily to wear a formal
outfit. Most of the strict formal dress code
casinos in the world can be found in Europe
somewhere.
Semi-Formal Dress Code
A semi-formal dress code does not require a
tuxedo nor does it require a tie. You can show
up in a suit jacket with a t-shirt on underneath
or you can show up in a smart collared shirt
covered by a sweater. Basically anything that
would work in a meeting at your office would
work in a semi-formal style. There are actually
not that many casinos in Macau that employ this
dress code either, although there are more than
you would find in Las Vegas .
Smart Casual Dress Code
This is essentially the no shirt, no shoes, no
service dress code and it is really in this area
that Las Vegas and Macau differ greatly. Smart
casual is just a step below semi-formal and it
basically implies that anything goes as long as
it is tasteful. This means that you can dress in
a t-shirt and shorts as long as they are plain
colored and subdued, by bright and flashy
insignia wear is out of the question. Most of
the casinos in Macau subscribe to this
particular dress code, whereas most of the
casinos in Las Vegas do not.
No Dress Code
No dress code essentially implies that
anything goes. You can wear any shirt, any
bottom and any shoe/sock combination you want to
and you will still be able to play inside the
casino.
This is the way most Las Vegas casinos
operate in theory, although in practice most of
them contain people that dress in a smart casual
way. There are always younger people that dress
in flashy clothing however and while this is
allowed in Las Vegas , it will not be tolerated
in Macau . Keep this in mind when deciding what
to wear for your casino going adventure.
